The Texas Plant Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (TPDDL) provides diagnostic assistance of plant disease problems using routine and non-routine laboratory testing. Fatty acid profiling using gas-liquid chromatography with computerized database searching for bacterial identification, ELISA-based virus identification, and tissue isolation test are routinely used. Non-standard techniques are evaluated for diagnostic utility. Use digital technology to provide distance digital diagnostic capability and to maintain archival database of diagnostic specimens for teaching and research applications. Maintain an active applied research program in disease identification and disease control on greenhouse and nursery crops. Evaluate fungicides, biological control agents, and new breeding lines for disease control efficacy.
